HB-51 "MIRROR LANDING"
A mirror, a light, and a glide path the pilot could read in the last few seconds.
The mirror landing system replaced the landing signal officer for primary glide path control on jet aircraft. The pilot watched a reflected light against a row of reference bars and corrected to keep the light in the middle. The geometry was honest and the latency was zero. Subsequent systems improved the optics. The principle stayed. A pilot recovering on a moving deck still flies the ball.
For those who understand that the right indicator is sometimes a piece of geometry, not a piece of instrumentation.
