HB-50 "JET TRANSITION"
Higher landing speeds, longer take off runs, hotter exhaust. The whole carrier had to change to handle the new aircraft.
The jet arrived on the deck of a ship that had been designed for the piston engine. Catapults had to be redesigned. Arresting gear had to absorb more energy. The deck itself had to be re-laid for higher heat. The first fifteen years of the post war fleet was largely the work of fitting the new wing onto the old hull, and then drawing the new hull to suit. Almost nothing on a 1945 carrier survived the transition unchanged.
For those who understand that a new generation of input asks for a new generation of everything the input touches.
