HB-48 "LEYTE GULF"
Four engagements, three days, the largest naval battle ever fought.
Through 23 to 26 October 1944, the United States Navy and the Imperial Japanese Navy fought across an area of the central Philippines wider than any previous battle in any previous war. Carrier strikes, surface gunfire, the last engagement between battleships in line, and the first organised use of kamikaze aircraft. By the end of the action, the Japanese surface fleet had effectively ceased to be a strategic factor. The campaign continued for ten more months. The decision had already been made.
For those who understand that some engagements are not won and lost so much as concluded.
