HB-14 "JUTLAND"
Two fleets. One afternoon. The largest gun engagement of the war.
On 31 May 1916, two hundred and fifty capital ships, cruisers, and destroyers met off the Jutland Bank. The action ran into the night and broke up in fog and confusion. Tonnage figures favoured one side, strategic outcome favoured the other, and the debate over which mattered more never quite ended. The lessons in armour, magazine protection, and signalling were taken away from the field and built into the next generation of ships.
For those who understand that the meaning of an engagement is sometimes written long after the smoke clears.
Harborborne. Built to Endure.
