The Air War. 1942 printed large up the case beside our side-view drawing of the aircraft, with SIXTEEN and 18·IV·1942 running up the side.
18 April 1942, the Pacific. Sixteen B-25B bombers, each with a five-man crew, took off from the flight deck of USS Hornet (CV-8) into a 40-knot gale, still more than 600 miles out. Our own side-view drawing as they flew that morning: lower turret removed, two wooden dummy guns in the tail cone, no markings. Remembered by the date, not slogans.
