Flight operations were not a single event. They were a continuous sequence of small operations, each timed against the wind, the deck length, the next cycle, and the weather coming in. A carrier that ran its cycles cleanly fielded more strikes per day than one that did not, with the same number of aircraft. The advantage was rarely in the equipment. It was almost always in how the deck was worked.
