Battleship guns. Cruiser armour. A type that was always going to be argued about.
The battlecruiser was Fisher's idea of how to combine the strike of a capital ship with the speed of a scout. The hulls were long, the boilers were large, and the belt armour was thinner than any first rate of the period. The type worked at the role it was drawn for, and paid for the compromise at the role it was sometimes asked to play instead.
For those who understand that a ship is the doctrine you use it for, not the doctrine you wish you had.
