HB-43 "AIR GROUP"

Sale price$70.15

Fighters, dive bombers, torpedo aircraft. Three squadrons, one wing, one ship.

The fleet carrier of the Pacific war typically operated a wing of around ninety aircraft across three squadrons. The mix was tuned through the campaign. Fighter strength grew, torpedo strength shrank, and by 1944 the wing on a heavy carrier was a fighter heavy strike element more than the balanced wing it had started as. The wing changed shape because the work changed shape. The ship stayed the same.

For those who understand that the right unit of measurement changes during a long campaign, often without anyone formally announcing it.

  Harborborne. Built to Endure.
