1945, the Pacific. Kept off carrier decks until 1944, the F4U-1D went to sea in force in 1945: in mid-February the fast carriers sailed with 144 more of them from Marine squadrons alone. Our own top-view drawing, with no markings: the gull-wing fighter, seen from above.
